PUNE: Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries will now pay the same fee that is charged from resident students for admission to the first-year degree course in the autonomous engineering colleges in Maharashtra for 2010-11.
The candidates from the Gulf nations were paying $5,000 (approximately Rs 2.25 lakh) for a seat but will now have to pay only Rs 37,500, the same that is being charged from resident students.

However, the reduced fee will not be applicable for students coming under the categories of foreign national, foreign student and person of Indian origin (PIO).

The All India Council for Technical Education had received several representations from Indian workers in the Gulf, expressing their difficulty in paying the $5,000 fee because of the global economic slowdown and absence of permanent jobs.
