தெளிவு:

வ அலைக்குமுஸ்ஸலாம் வரஹ்,

*கத்னா எனும் விருத்த சேதனம் செய்வது இறையன்பர் நபி இப்ராஹீம் (அலை) அவர்களின் வழக்கமாகத் துவக்கப்பட்டது என ஆதாரப் பூர்வமான அறிவிப்புகளிலிருந்து அறியமுடிகிறது!

"(இறைத்தூதர்) இப்ராஹீம்(அலை) அவர்கள் எண்பது வயதிற்குப் பிறகு விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டார்கள். அவர்கள் 'கதூம்' (எனும் கூரிய ஆயுதத்தின்) மூலமாக விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டார்கள்" என்று அல்லாஹ்வின் தூதர் (ஸல்) அவர்கள் கூறினார்கள். அறிவிப்பாளர்: அபூஹுரைரா (ரலி) (நூல்கள்: புகாரி 3356, 6298, அஹ்மத்).

முஸ்லிம்கள், யூதர்கள், கிருஸ்துவர்கள் ஆகிய மூன்று சமயத்தவருக்கும் பெரும் பாட்டனாராகிய இப்ராஹீம் (அலை) அவர்களது முன்னுதாரணத்தைப் பின்பற்றியே இன்றுவரை கத்னா செய்துகொள்வது வழக்கில் உள்ளது. நபி (ஸல்) அவர்கள் அல்லாஹ்வின் தூதராக ஆவதற்கு முன்பே மக்கத்துக் குரைஷியரும் மதீனாப் பகுதிகளில் குடியேறி வாழ்ந்துவந்த யூதர்களும் விருத்த சேதனம் செய்துகொள்ளும் வழக்கமுடையோராக இருந்துள்ளனர் என்பதை வரலாற்று நூல்கள் வாயிலாக அறிய முடிகிறது.

கத்னா செய்தல் இஸ்லாத்தில் கட்டாயக் கடமை என்று சொல்வதற்கில்லை. கத்னா செய்யாமலும் ஒருவர் இஸ்லாத்தில் இணைந்து முஸ்லிமாக இருக்க முடியும். ஆயினும், கத்னா செய்வது வலியுறுத்தப்பட்ட ஓர் இயற்கை வழிமுறையாகும்.

"விருத்தசேதனம் செய்வது, மர்ம உறுப்பின் முடியைக் களைந்திட சவரக் கத்தியை உபயோகிப்பது, அக்குள் முடிகளை அகற்றுவது, நகங்களை வெட்டிக் கொள்வது, மீசையைக் கத்தரித்துக் கொள்வது ஆகிய ஐந்து விஷயங்களும் இயற்கை மரபுகளில் அடங்கும்" என்று அல்லாஹ்வின் தூதர் (ஸல்) அவர்கள் கூறினார்கள். அறிவிப்பாளர்: அபூஹுரைரா (ரலி) (நூல்கள்: புகாரீ 5889, 5891, 6297, முஸ்லிம் 377, 378, திர்மிதீ, நஸயீ, அபூதாவூத், இப்னுமாஜா, அஹ்மத், முஅத்தா மாலிக்)

அக்குள் முடி நீக்குதல், பாலின உறுப்புப் பகுதிகளின் முடி நீக்குதல், மீசையைக் கத்தரித்தல், நகங்களை வெட்டுதல் ஆகியவற்றை நாற்பது நாள்களுக்கு மேல் வளரவிடாமல் (முஸ்லிம் 379) நீக்குவதும் வெட்டுவதும் இயற்கை மரபு (இஸ்லாத்தின் மரபு) என இஸ்லாம் அறிவித்துள்ளது. எனவே, கத்னா எனும் விருத்த சேதனம் செய்தல் இயற்கை மரபாகும்! மற்றபடி கட்டாயம் கத்னா செய்தே ஆகவேண்டும் என்று இஸ்லாம் அறிவித்திடவில்லை!

புகாரீ ஹதீஸ் 6298இன் அறிவிப்பாளர் அபுஸ்ஸினாத் (ரஹ்) அவர்கள், "கதூம் என்பது (சிரியாவிலுள்ள) ஓர் இடத்தின் பெயராகும்" எனக் கூறுகிறார்கள்.

நபிகள் நாயகம் (ஸல்) அவர்கள் கத்னா செய்துகொள்ளவே இல்லை. செய்துகொண்டதற்கு நூல்களில் ஒரு இடத்திலும் ஆதாரம் இல்லை என்று சொல்லக்கேட்டிருக்கிறேன். இது உண்மையா என்று தெரியப்படுத்தவும். அதே போல, குரைய்ஷிகளும் ஜஹிலியா காலத்தில் கத்னா செய்துகொள்ளூம் வழக்கம் இல்லாதவர்களாகத்தான் இருந்தார்கள் என்றும் அந்த பகுதியில் இருந்த யூதர்கள் மட்டுமே கத்னா செய்துகொள்பவர்களாக இருந்தார்கள் என்றும் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன். இதன் உண்மை பொய் நிலையை விளக்க முடியுமா?

முதலாவதைத் தவிர ஏனைய நான்கு இயற்கை மரபுகளையும் பின்பற்றுவது நாகரிகம் எனக் கருதுபவர்கள், கத்னாச் செய்வதை முஸ்லிம்களுக்கு மட்டுமானது என விட்டு விட்டது வியப்புக்குறியது!

நம் பெரும் பாட்டனார் இறைத்தூதர் இப்ராஹீம்(அலை) அவர்களின் வழிமுறையைப் பின்பற்றிய அக்கால அரபுலக சமுதாயத்தின் வழக்கப்படி சிறுவராயிருக்கும் போதே முஹம்மத் [நபி (ஸல்) அவர்கள் அல்லாஹ்வின் தூதராக ஆவதற்கு முன்பே] அவர்களுக்கும் 'கத்னா'ச் செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கும் என்று நம்புவதே அவர்களின் மீது நல்லெண்ணம் கொள்வதாகும்.

கத்னாச் செய்வது உட்பட நபி இப்ராஹீம்(அலை) அவர்களின் குறிப்பிட்ட வழிமுறையை முஸ்லிம்கள் பின்பற்றும்படி முஹம்மத் நபி(ஸல்) சொல்லி இருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் செய்யாததை மற்றவர்கள் செய்யும்படி சொல்லி இருக்க மாட்டார்கள் என்று நம்புவதும் அவர்களின் மீது நல்லெண்ணம் கொள்வதாகும்.

நபி (ஸல்) அவர்கள் கத்னா செய்திருக்கவில்லை என்பதற்கு நீங்கள் தான் சான்றுகள் தரவேண்டும். மேலும், நபி (ஸல்) அவர்கள் காலத்தில் யூதர்களும் அரபிகளும் கத்னா செய்யும் வழக்கமுடையோராக இருந்தனர் என்கிற தகவலை புகாரி நூலில் பதிவுசெய்யப்பட்டுள்ள
ஏழாவது ஹதீஸிலிருந்து அறியலாம்.

ஹெர்குலிஸ் மன்னர் விண் கோள்களை ஆய்ந்து சோதிடம் சொல்லுவதில் வல்ல வராயிருந்தார். மன்னரின் கவலைக்குக் காரணமென்னவென்று வினவியவர்களிடம் அவர், 'இன்றிரவு நான் நட்சத்திர மண்டலத்தை ஆராய்ந்து கொண்டிருந்தபோது விருத்த சேதனம் செய்யப்பட்டவர்களின் மன்னர் தோன்றிவிட்டதாக அறிந்தேன்' என்று கூறிவிட்டு, அறிந்தேன்' என்று கூறிவிட்டு, 'இக்கால மக்களில் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்து கொள்ளும் வழக்கமுடையவர்கள் யார்?' என வினவினார். 'யூதர்களைத் தவிர வேறு யாரும் விருத்த சேதனம் செய்து கொள்வதில்லை; அவர்களைப் பற்றி நீங்கள் கவலைப்படாதீர்கள்; உங்கள் ஆட்சிக்குட்பட்ட நகரங்களுக்கெல்லாம் எழுதி அங்குள்ள யூதர்களைக் கொன்று விடுமாறு கட்டளையிடுங்கள்' என்றார்கள். இவ்வாறு அவர்கள் உரையாடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் போதே நபி(ஸல்) அவர்களைப் பற்றிய தகவல் ஒன்றைக் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கும் ஒரு மனிதரை 'கஸ்ஸான்' என்ற கோத்திரத்தின் குறுநில மன்னர் ஹெர்குலிஸிடம் அனுப்பியிருந்தார். அம்மனிதர் அவரின் முன் கொண்டு வந்து நிறுத்தப்பட்டார். அவரிடம் தகவல்களைப் பெற்ற ஹெர்குலிஸ், 'இவரை அழைத்துச் சென்று இவர் விருத்த சேதனம் செய்திருக்கிறாரா? அல்லவா? சோதியுங்கள்' என்று ஆணையிட்டார். அவரை அழைத்துச் சென்று பரிசோதித்தவர்கள் அவர் விருத்த சேதனம் செய்திருப்பதாகக் கூறினார்கள். அவரிடம் அரபிகளின் வழக்கம் பற்றி மன்னர் விசாரித்தபோது, 'அவர்கள் விருத்த சேதனம் செய்து கொள்ளும் வழக்கமுடையவர்கள் தாம்' என்றார். உடனே ஹெர்குலிஸ், 'அவர் தாம் - (முஹம்மத்(ஸல்) இக்காலத்தின் மன்னராவார்; அவர் தோன்றிவிட்டார் என்று கூறினார். பின்னர் ரோமாபுரியிலிருந்த, தமக்கு நிகரான கல்வியறிவும் ஞானமும் பெற்றிருந்த தம் நண்பர் ஒருவருக்கு ஒரு கடிதம் எழுதிவிட்டு 'ஹிம்ஸ்' என்ற நகரத்திற்குப் பயணமானார். அவர் ஹிம் ஸுக்குப் போய் சேர்வதற்குள் பதில் கடிதம் வந்தது. அக்கடிதத்தில், ஹெர்குலிஸின் கருத்துப்படியே, இறைத்தூதரின் வருகை பற்றியும் அத்தூதர் இவர் தாம் என்றும் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது.

In Islam, circumcision is an integral part of the religion. The prescription of circumcision for Muslims is reported in several hadiths:

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘The (characteristics of) the fitrah are five: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, trimming the moustache, cutting the fingernails and plucking the armpit hairs" (Sahih al-Bukhari). Fitrah is defined as the natural state of man.

The following words have been recorded in another hadith "get rid of the hair of disbeliefand perform circumcision" (Musnad Ahmad).

Rasulullah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever accepts Islam should have his circumcision perfomed." (Talkhis al-Habir)

It has been reported in hadith that the recommended time for circumcision to be performed for a newborn baby is the seventh day. "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) performed the Aqiqah of al-Hassan and al-Hussain and circumcised them on the 7th day." (Reported by al-Baihaqee & Tabaraanee). It is important however to remember that the timing is only a recommendation and it is still permissible to perform circumcision after the seventh day if for example the day has been missed.

Prophet Ibrahim & circumcision:


Circumcision of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) is actually not in the Qur'an. The Qur'an deals extensively with Prophet Ibrahim, his name alone is mentioned sixty-seven times. Yet the Qur'an says nothing of him being circumcised or being commanded to do so. Rather it was his faith in Allah and devotion to Him alone which is stressed throughout the Qur'an and which is to be followed. The Qur'an deals with Prophet Ibrahim's construction of the Kaba and other matters - but does not say he was told to cut off a part of his private parts. There is an important reason why as we shall see shortly.

“They say, ‘Be Jews or Christians and you will be guided.’ Say, rather adopt the religion of Abraham, a man of natural pure belief. He was not one of the idolaters.’ (Qur’an 2:136)

We follow the way of Ibrahim by following the religion communicated in the Qur'an, not the Bible where this injunction is found, teachings of Allah in the Quran supersede them:

Circumcision is not prescribed by the Holy Quran and is not a commandment in Islam. However, before Islam, it was practised by the people of Arabia; and being a good practice and a useful hygienic measure, it was allowed by the Rasool ( peace be upon him) to be kept up by the Muslims. Since then it has retained its traditional significance in Islam. Besides being a measure of cleanliness, the prophylactic value of circumcision is great. For example, carcinoma of the penis is very uncommon amongst the circumcised and early circumcision has been a definite deterring factor in this respect.

It is also commonly believed that the incidence of acquired syphilis is lower in the circumcised Jews. Jews, according to an old tradition, carry out circumcision on the eighth day after the birth of a child. Being only a custom for Muslims, there is no such restriction as far as time is concerned, although it is often carried out early, generally before the age of five or six. The festivities attached to circumcision amongst the Muslims, are of a customary nature and are not necessarily carried out in each case. Jews and Muslims have circumcised newly born male children using different methods at different times. Pictures depicting circumcisions are still in existence, for example: the well-preserved tomb painting at the Egyptian village of Saqqara ( about 2400 B.C. ).
